Secretary of State Sam Reed today recognized the Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce as a century corporation. The honor falls 100 years and a day from the Chamber’s original incorporation.
"In any given year there are roughly a dozen organizations recognized as Century Corporations," said Secretary of State Sam Reed. "Of the 900 businesses and organizations to incorporate in 1902, only 21 have stayed in business for 100 years. That kind of longevity is an impressive feat."
Faced with a population shortage in the 1930s, Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce members were rumored to have traveled east to begin to lure people to the small dairy town.
Today the Chamber of Commerce serves as a volunteer-driven organization representing business, tourism and economic development in the Enumclaw community.
"In tight economic times like these, you truly appreciate longstanding contributors to our communities around Washington State," said Reed. "We commend the Chamber for its hard work and service."
